Artist Statement
Muhling explores the domain of feeling and change through the function of dissolution, by building up layers of glazes and rubbing back revealing the past. Mark making is abstracted over time, the buildup of paint, heavily diluted onto canvas, creates its own atmosphere. What is present, what is past and what exists, juxtaposes the delicate buildup of paint. The work is subjective allowing the viewer to read the work through self.
