Muhling’s work explores a conflux of dematerialized landscape abstractions that enact remembrance and elusiveness. The works are realized through translucent glazes almost to the point of evaporation expressing childhood memories and the reality of the present, these result in a powerful and intangible silence of meaning.

Complexity of memory is expressed through installations of small and large scale paintings and photographs. Muhling uses soft translucent glazes and dark tones creating immersive and vibrational colours that allude to a construct of schemas.

The installations reflect personal memories through the psychological lens of human experiences. Pared back subtle hues of colour glow, amorphous shapes suggest inner presence. Soft transposing spaces and dark velvet glazes tell of the power of reminiscence.
